World Cup 2026 FIFA Rankings
World Cup matches carry the highest importance weights in the SUM system. A deep tournament run can move a team more than months of friendlies.
Importance in the finals
- Group stage and round of 16: I = 50
- Quarter-finals, semi-finals, third place, and final: I = 60
- Penalty shoot-outs: winner W = 0.75, loser W = 0.50
Projecting rank after a big night
Official FIFA rankings still publish on FIFA's schedule. After a World Cup match you can project both teams' new points and approximate new world ranks with our calculator before the next official list appears.

Ranking is not the only story
World Cup qualification paths, draw pots, and tournament performance matter beyond a single ranking number. Use rankings as one signal, not the whole picture.
